# Notifications

Use notification settings to choose which alerts your customers receive, when they are sent, and how stock and price changes are handled.

You can send notifications about saved wishlist items, alert customers who have requested **Notify Me** or **Coming Soon** updates, and send one-off notifications based on product tags.

This page explains the settings. For more detail about how notifications work, see:

* [How stock and price notifications work](https://the-wishlist-documentation.gitbook.io/the-wishlist-documentation-docs/shopify-general/how-stock-and-price-notifications-work)
* [Notify Me and Coming Soon](https://the-wishlist-documentation.gitbook.io/the-wishlist-documentation-docs/notify-me-and-coming-soon/overview)
* [Shopify Markets](https://the-wishlist-documentation.gitbook.io/the-wishlist-documentation-docs/shopify-app-configuration/shopify-markets)

### Choose your notifications

Each notification type has its own settings and can be enabled separately.

| Notification | Purpose |
| ---------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Reminder | Remind customers about items saved to their wishlist. |
| Price drop | Let customers know when the price of a saved item falls. |
| Low stock | Let customers know when a saved item is almost sold out. |
| Back in stock | Let customers know when a previously sold-out wishlist item is available again. |
| Add Item | Notify customers when an item is added to their wishlist. |
| Post-Store Visit | Follow up after a store visit where an item was added to the customer's wishlist. |
| Product Tag | Send a one-off notification about wishlist items with a selected product tag. |
| Notify Me | Alert subscribers when an out-of-stock item becomes available. |
| Coming Soon | Alert subscribers about an upcoming item, using your chosen release trigger. |

**Back in stock and Notify Me are different:** back-in-stock notifications relate to saved wishlist items; Notify Me alerts relate to customers who explicitly requested an availability alert.

### Your marketing platform

The Wishlist Company does not send the notification emails, we typically just tell your marketing platform what to send and when.

Some platforms such as Emarsys and Bloomreach can manage all your notifications, so we just send them wishlist data.

For platforms such as Klaviyo, Dotdigital and Braze we trigger the notification events within The Wishlist and send real-time payloads to the platform including the notification type, customer, and product(s) so you can automatically populate email templates which are then sent through your platform.

Behaviour does vary between platforms. On Klaviyo, we populate Metrics, and you build Flows. On Dotddigital we have pre-built appblocks that you can embed in your templates. When you configure the individual notificaitons you will see some platform specific fields, depending on what you have integrated.

The information in this documentation is generic for all platforms where we control the notification event. See our platform specific guides under Integrations.

### Settings used across notification types

#### Consolidation time

Where a **Consolidate … notifications for** field is available, enter a time in minutes to group eligible items for a customer into one notification.

For example, a consolidation time of **15 minutes** allows eligible changes within that period to be grouped, rather than sending a separate notification for each item.

Consolidation is different from **Notify Me controlled release**, which spreads alerts across groups of customers.

#### Stock checks

Several notification types offer an option to exclude out-of-stock items. Back-in-stock notifications also offer a check to avoid sending if an item has sold out again before the notification is sent.

Use these settings to help avoid directing customers to unavailable items. A notification does not reserve stock, so availability can still change before a customer purchases.

#### Maximum notifications per item

Reminders, price drops, low-stock and back-in-stock notifications each have a **maximum number of times to trigger** setting for each wishlist item.

Use this to limit repeated notifications of that type about the same saved item.

### Reminder notifications

Remind customers about items they have saved to their wishlist.

* Enable **Send Reminder notifications**.
* Enter the interval in **Send reminder every … day(s)**.
* Choose whether to exclude out-of-stock items.
* Set the maximum number of reminder notifications for each wishlist item.

### Price drop notifications

Notify customers when the price of a saved item falls.

1. Enable **Send price drop notifications**.
2. Set the consolidation time in minutes.
3. Choose whether to exclude out-of-stock items.
4. Set the maximum number of price-drop notifications for each wishlist item.
5. Choose which price reductions qualify and how they are measured.

#### Which price reductions qualify?

**Notify on any price reduction, not only marked-down prices (compare-at price set)** allows notifications for price reductions beyond marked-down prices that have a compare-at price set.

#### How price drops are measured

Use **Measure price drops against** to choose the comparison:

| Comparison | What it means |
| ---------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Previous price | Each price change is assessed on its own. |
| Customer's price | Small drops can add up, and customers are not notified again about a price they have already been notified of. |

For example, a price falling from **$100 to $97**, then to **$94**, consists of two separate $3 drops when measured against the previous price. A customer's price comparison allows those smaller reductions to accumulate against the customer's reference price.

#### Minimum price drop

Set an optional minimum reduction to avoid sending alerts for small price changes.

* **Percentage:** enter the minimum percentage reduction.
* **Amount per currency:** use **Add currency amount** to enter a minimum amount for each relevant currency, such as **AUD 10** or **NZD 10**.
* If both a percentage and a currency amount apply, the reduction must meet **both**.
* Currencies without an amount configured use only the percentage threshold.
* Leave the thresholds blank to allow notifications for every otherwise eligible price drop.

For a single-currency store, add your store currency if you want an amount threshold.

For example, with a **5%** minimum and an **AUD 10** minimum, a qualifying AUD price drop must meet both limits.

For Shopify Markets stores, minimum thresholds can help avoid alerts for small changes associated with currency movements. They do not distinguish an exchange-rate change from a deliberate price reduction.

### Low-stock notifications

Notify customers when a saved item is almost sold out.

* Enable **Send low stock notifications**.
* Set the consolidation time in minutes.
* Enter the stock level used to trigger the notification.
* Choose whether to exclude out-of-stock items.
* Set the maximum number of low-stock notifications for each wishlist item.

See [How stock and price notifications work](https://the-wishlist-documentation.gitbook.io/the-wishlist-documentation-docs/shopify-general/how-stock-and-price-notifications-work) for the detailed stock rules.

### Back-in-stock notifications

Notify customers when a previously sold-out item on their wishlist becomes available again.

* Enable **Send back in stock notifications**.
* Set the consolidation time in minutes.
* Enter the threshold in **Send when stock rises above**.
* Enable **Don't send if the item is no longer in stock when the notification is sent** if you want to exclude items that sell out again before sending.
* Set the maximum number of back-in-stock notifications for each wishlist item.

To manage customers who explicitly subscribe to an availability alert, use **Notify Me** below.

### Add Item and Post-Store Visit notifications

#### Add Item

Notify a customer when an item is added to their wishlist. Enable **Add Item notifications** and set the consolidation time in minutes. This provides a record of the saved items.

#### Post-Store Visit

Available to retailers using our **in-store clienteling module**. Send a follow-up after a store visit where a staff member has added items to the customer's wishlist.

Enable **Post-Store Visit notifications** and set the consolidation time in minutes.

Note - a staff member can override sending a follow up email in clienteling by unchecking this option at the time of sale.

### Product Tag notifications

Send a one-off notification to customers who currently have an item with a selected product tag on their wishlist.

1. Enter the **Name of tag**.
2. Set the minimum stock level for the notification to be triggered.
3. Choose whether to exclude out-of-stock items.
4. Choose how to send:
   * **Execute now:** send the one-off notification now.
   * **Schedule:** select a date and time, then schedule the notification.
   * **History:** view previous tag-notification activity.

For example, you could use a tag to notify interested customers about a selected product range. Review the tag and stock settings before selecting **Execute now**.

### Notify Me alerts

Notify Me lets customers request an alert for an out-of-stock item using their email address and, optionally, their mobile number, without requiring an account sign-up.

Enable **Notify Me alerts** and enter the threshold in **Send when stock rises above**.

#### Choose how customers are alerted

By default, all waiting subscribers are alerted when stock returns. For a limited restock, use **Release Notify Me alerts in controlled batches** to spread alerts over time.

| Release option | How it works |
| ------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Notify everyone at once | Alert all waiting subscribers when stock returns. |
| Fixed number per batch | Alert a set number of customers at a time, oldest request first, with a wait between batches. |
| Scale to available stock | Calculate the batch size from stock on hand, so smaller restocks alert fewer customers. |

Controlled release rechecks stock before each batch. It gives earlier subscribers the first opportunity to respond, but does not reserve stock or guarantee a purchase opportunity.

#### Optional stock guards

**Stop alerting if stock falls below … units**

Set a stock level below which further alerts stop. Leave it blank to use the minimum stock level configured above. Customers who have not yet been alerted remain on the list for the next restock.

**Hold back … units when sizing each batch**

Exclude this number of units when calculating batch sizes. Usually, leave this at **0**. If Shopify safety stock has already reduced the stock figure received by the app, adding the same holdback here reduces it again.

#### Continue to wishlist customers

Enable **Continue on to wishlist customers once everyone on the Notify Me list has been alerted** if you want to extend alerts to customers who saved the item but did not request Notify Me.

These customers are alerted only after the Notify Me list has been completed and only while stock remains. The same customer is not alerted twice as part of this release.

See [Notify Me and Coming Soon](https://the-wishlist-documentation.gitbook.io/the-wishlist-documentation-docs/notify-me-and-coming-soon/overview) for the subscription and storefront setup.

### Coming Soon alerts

Coming Soon lets customers register interest in upcoming products. You choose when the alerts are released.

Enable **Coming Soon alerts**, then choose a trigger:

| Trigger | Use it when… |
| -------------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Trigger when stock arrives | You want alerts released when stock becomes available. Set the minimum stock level for the trigger. |
| Trigger at a specified date/time | You want alerts released at a planned launch date and time. |
| Do not trigger automatically | You want to manage the release manually using **Send Now**, or use **Download to CSV** for the subscriber list. |

See [Notify Me and Coming Soon](https://the-wishlist-documentation.gitbook.io/the-wishlist-documentation-docs/notify-me-and-coming-soon/overview) for more detail.

### Using notifications with Shopify Markets

If you sell across multiple countries or currencies, review your Markets configuration alongside these notification settings.

* Check the stock rules used for the countries you sell to.
* Review price-drop thresholds for each relevant currency. An **AUD 10** amount does not automatically set a **NZD 10** threshold.
* Consider controlled Notify Me release where stock is limited.

The notification settings control triggers and release behaviour. For the detailed country, pricing and stock configuration, see [Shopify Markets](https://the-wishlist-documentation.gitbook.io/the-wishlist-documentation-docs/shopify-app-configuration/shopify-markets).

### Before you enable notifications

Check your enabled notification types, active email templates, stock thresholds, consolidation times, repeat limits and price-drop rules. For Notify Me, also check the release method and stock guards. Test your notification content and delivery setup before using it with customers.

For the rules that determine whether a stock or price notification qualifies, refer to [How stock and price notifications work](https://the-wishlist-documentation.gitbook.io/the-wishlist-documentation-docs/shopify-general/how-stock-and-price-notifications-work).
