# UTM Tracking

## UTM tracking for marketing notifications

The Wishlist Company can add UTM parameters to product links in automated wishlist notifications. This helps you identify traffic and engagement generated by notifications such as back-in-stock, price-drop and low-stock messages in Google Analytics or another analytics platform.

UTM tracking is currently available for notifications sent through:

* Dotdigital
* Klaviyo
* Bloomreach
* Braze

### How it works

When UTM tracking is enabled, The Wishlist Company adds campaign parameters to each product link before the notification is passed to your marketing platform.

The default parameters are:

| Parameter      | Default value                                                                                                   |
| -------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `utm_source`   | `wishlist`                                                                                                      |
| `utm_medium`   | `email`                                                                                                         |
| `utm_campaign` | Based on the notification type, such as `wishlist_back_in_stock`, `wishlist_price_drop` or `wishlist_low_stock` |
| `utm_content`  | `wishlist_product`                                                                                              |

For example, a product link in a back-in-stock notification may look like this:

```
https://store.com/product?variant=123&utm_source=wishlist&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=wishlist_back_in_stock&utm_content=wishlist_product
```

This creates a consistent campaign structure across supported marketing platforms while keeping wishlist-generated traffic identifiable as its own source.

### Configuration options

The default values are suitable for most implementations. If required, you can ask us to customise one or more of the following values:

* UTM source
* UTM medium
* UTM campaign
* UTM content

Values can also be configured differently for each supported marketing platform. For example, a retailer could use `wishlist` as the default source but use a platform-specific source for Dotdigital or Klaviyo.

UTM tracking can also be disabled for an individual marketing platform while remaining enabled for the others.

### Enabling UTM tracking

Please contact The Wishlist Company to enable UTM tracking or request custom values. No changes are required to your marketing templates.

Once enabled, the parameters will be included in product links generated for new notifications. Links in notifications that have already been prepared or sent will not be updated retrospectively.

### Analytics and reporting

After activation, you can use the configured campaign parameters in Google Analytics or your preferred analytics platform to analyse sessions, engagement and conversions from wishlist notifications.

UTM parameters improve campaign attribution, but reported results may still be affected by analytics consent, browser privacy controls, cross-device behaviour and the attribution model used by your analytics platform.
